CIA World Fact Book 8 February 2007

World Prison Brief 19 April 2006

Human Development Data 2006

[1] The population in Zimbabwe is reported to be lower than the previous year although it has a slightly positive population growth.  We will go with the new lower number.

[2] The Liberian population is reported to have declined from 3,482,211 in 2005 to 3,042,004 in 2006.  The population growth rate of 4.91% extremely high migration rate of returning refugees fails to justify this decline and WHO in 2002 reported a population of 3,367,000 the 2005 figure is recalculated with the growth rate.

[3] Not including the 53,000 Rwandan genocide suspects

[4] The Burkina Faso population is reported to have a 3% growth rate but a decline in population therefore the population was re-calculated for a 3% increase over the year before.

[5] The population of Mali is reported to have declined from 12,291,529 to 11,716,829 in 2006 although the growth rate was 2.63%.  The number of 13,007,000 from the WHO in 2002 is therefore substituted.

[6] The migration rate from Burundi changed from 0 in 2005 to the very high immigration rate of 8.22 in 2006.  This must be the reason for the increase in population from 6,370,609 in 2005 to 8,090,068 in 2006.

[7] CIA Reports $60 million ODA for Somalia in 1999 in 2006

[8] Malawi CIA Reports ODA of $401.5 million in 2001

[9] Comoros OER $402 million in 2005

[10] Comoros CIA Reports ODA of $24 million in 2003

[11] The GDP for the Demoratic Republic of Congo has gone down from 2005 to 2006 although the growth rate is positive 7.5%.  The CIA claims much of the economic is outside of the GDP statistics however it would also seem that the per capita is too high to do the ODA justice as this is one of the poorest countries is the world.

[12] DRC budget statistics are from 2004

[13] DRC trade statistics are from 2004

[14] Democratic Republic of Congo ODA $2.2 billion in 2003

[15] Burundi shows a large population growth from 6,370,609 in 2005 to 8,090,068 in 2006.  Judging from previous comparisons African population has been underestimated by the CIA.

[16] CIA Reports $105.5 million ODA for Burundi in 2003

[17] Tanzania ODA $1.2 billion in 2001

[18] The Liberian per capita is reduced to $900 from $1,000 whereas the population was increased.

[19] Liberian budget statistics date from 2000

[20] Liberian international trade statistics date from 2004

[21] Liberia CIA Reports ODA of $94 million in 1999

[22] Guinea-Bissau international trade statistics from 2004

[23] Guinea-Bissau CIA Reports ODA of $115.4 million in 1995

[24] Madagascar CIA Reports ODA of $354 million in 2001

[25] Sierra Leone budget estimates are from 2000

[26] Sierra Leone international trade statistics from 2004

[27] Ethiopia CIA Reports ODA of $308 million in 2000-2001

[28] Niger CIA Reports ODA of $453.3 million in 2003

[29] Eritrea OER $1.244 billion in 2005

[30] Eritrea CIA Reports ODA of $77 million in 1999

[31] Zambia CIA Reports ODA of $640.6 million in 2002

[32] Djibouti CIA Reports ODA of $36 million in 2001

[33] Benin CIA Reports ODA of $342.6 in 2000

[34] Central African Republic CIA reports ODA of $59.8 traditionally receives budget subsidy from France

[35] Mali CIA Reports ODA of $472.1 million in 2002

[36] Sao Tome and Principe CIA reports $200 million HIPC program

[37] Kenya CIA Reports ODA of $453 million in 1997

[38] Burkina Faso CIA Reports ODA of $468.4 million in 2003

[39] The Republic of Congo economic statistics underwent a major upward revision that is not credible  because the exports are greater than the GDP.

[40] Republic of Congo CIA Reports ODA $159.1 million in 1999

[41] Nigeria CIA Reports $250 million contributed by the IMF in 1998

[42] Chad underwent a downward revision in GDP and per capita from $18.3 billion and $1,900 whereas we are searching lower figures for Africa to properly express the poverty of the people we are going with the newer numbers.

[43] Chad CIA Reports $238.3 million received; note - $125 million committed by Taiwan (August 1997); $30 million committed by African Development Bank; ODA $246.9 million (2003 est.)

[44] Mozambique CIA Reports ODA of $632.8 million in 2000

[45] Rwanda CIA Reports ODA of $425 million in 2003

[46] Cote d’Ivoire CIA reports ODA of $1 billion in 1996

[47] Togo CIA reports ODA of $80 million in 2000

[48] Uganda CIA reports ODA of $959 million in 2003

[49] Senegal CIA reports ODA of $449.6 million in 2003

[50] Zimbabwe OER $5.817 billion in 2005

[51] Zimbabwe CIA reports ODA of $178 million; note - the EU and the US provide food aid on humanitarian grounds (2000 est.)

[52] The Gambia CIA reports ODA of $59.8 million in 2003

[53] The Guinea GDP and per capita are reported lower than 2005 when they were $20.74 and $2,200 although a 2% economic growth rate is reported.  The lower numbers are gone with because lower figures are sought to better reflect African economics.

[54] On Guinea the CIA reports ODA of $237.5 million in 2003

[55] Sudan CIA reports ODA of $172 million for 2001

[56]Cameroon on 23 January 2001, the Paris Club agreed to reduce Cameroon's debt of $1.3 billion by $900 million; debt relief now totals $1.26 billion

[57] Ghana CIA reports ODA of $6.9 billion in 1999

[58] Mauritania CIA reports ODA of $305.7 million in 2002

[59] Angola had a massive revision of their GDP and per capita from $27.7 billion and $2,500 to $51.95 billion and $4,300, that is not even explained by the 14% growth rate.  We shall therefore go with a lower number calculated from the previous year of $31.56 billion.  Corruption is reported to be a major problem therefore low estimates should spare the people from some pillaging.

[60] Angola CIA reports ODA of $383.5 million in 1999

[61] The Lesotho GDP and per capita went down from 6.123 billion and $3,300 although a 1.7% growth rate is estimated.  The 0.46% decline in population and advancing of the AIDS epidemic lead one to concede to a smaller economy.

[62] Lesotho CIA reports ODA contributions of $4.4 million in receipts of $41.5 million in 2000

[63] Swaziland GDP and per capita are lower than the previous year of $6.239 billion and $5,300 although a 2% economic growth rate is reported.  The advancing AIDS epidemic lead one to concur to a contraction in the economy.

[64] Swaziland CIA reports ODA of $104 million in 2001

[65] Cape Verde CIA Reports ODA of $136 million in 1999

[66] Gabon CIA repots ODA of $331 million in 1995
