Chapter 7 National Cemeteries

§281a Utilization of surplus military real property for cemeteries

When the Secretary of the Army determines that there is need for an additional cemetery or cemeteries for the burial of members of the armed forces of the United States dying in the service or former members whose last discharge therefrom was honorable and certain other persons as provided for by section 281 of this title, he is authorized to utilize and expand existing facilities at Fort Rosecrans, California, and Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, when practicable, through the use of federally owned lands under the jurisdiction of the Army for military purposes and not needed for such purposes for the establishment thereon of a national cemetery or cemeteries.
